What do you do for a living?

So What do you do for a living?

I beleive this question is very common and yes I do get asked this a lot. I don’t really like to answer this question in full because it will invite further questions and normally ended up with a frown on the other person’s face.

I’m an electrical and electronic engineer by profession and specializing in RF & Microwave field. Yes, it is really mouthful to say it this way. I work in a test & measurement company in Penang, Malaysia. Part of my job description involved supporting the manufacturing of microcircuit modules such as amplifier, mixer, modulator, multiplier, filters etc.. from microwave to millimeter wave….very high frequency indeed.

So, I learnt the shortest way to answer when people asking me about my job. I just say “I work in a factory..” and I leave it hanging there and let them inteprate it themselves. The normal reaction I’ll get after that will be ” Oh.. so you are an operator/assembler” ..and then, the next question they will ask is “what do you do in the factory line?” So, when they heard the word microwave… all they can think of is “the microwave oven” which we don’t even have in the line. I found it very funny so I just let them think of it that way.. it gets too complicated to explain what I do without going into technical terms and I’m not very good with words…

so, yes.. I just say I work in a factory..

I don’t even mentioned the word ‘engineer’ anymore because they will look at me as though I’m from a different planet. “Why do you do something so hard?” …”What do you want to prove?” … are typically what I get when I say I’m an engineer. I think in Malaysia we are quite open in having women as an engineer but some still cringe at the thought of seeing one.

I still remember my uni time in Bristol. In my course, there were only 5 or 6 womens (two of them – including me, are from Malaysia). And the rest of the students were guyz.. I think there were more than 60 of them…

In short, I work in a male dominated profession but I enjoy what I do. I’m cool with that… Why? I love what I’m doing… I have passion for problem solving and root cause analysis… more than anything else…

So, why do I tell you this story?

I always have a dream of owning my own paycheck and I turn to internet for ideas… so I made a choice to become an internet/info marketer..I’m glad that I find Turbomembership in the second week I was onlined. I cannot exactly remember how I found it but I just like to think that it found me icon smile What do you do for a living?

I still have my day job because I love it and still need seed money to build my business. I invest time and money in my business after the working hours. Sometimes way into midnight, only to wake up very early in the morning to go to work. I really want to build my business and one thing I really have to do is to stay focus on my target.

One day, the dream of owning a profitable business that continuously generating income with minimal intervention will become a reality. I know I still have a lot to learn… but I’m determined to make it work

I registered my business today!
