Behind every tree in every country there has to be a shy marketer wannabe with a large hope of making money online but have no idea of how or what they should do. Worst, they do not know what they want to do for their business. Most have been engulfed by the constant marketing hype that continuesly circulating the Web: “You can make thousands of dollars every day with no work at all.” Does this sound familiar to you?
Think about that grandious statement for a moment. The plain truth is that business is business, regardless of the method you use to do it. You can have a retail store or service bureau online or offline. You can sell anything you want to sell either way, provided that you can find a market for your products or services.
Most newcomers to Internet Marketing fail without making much money, if any at all, because they forgot or didn’t even know the very basic, critical requirements behind every business. You have to have a plan! Several plans, in fact. Plan A, B, C etc .. always have contingency plan tucked somewhere nearby.. in case you plan is not successful
No businessman since the beginning of time ever just found an empty stall or storefront and opened up a business few hours later.
There are four specific steps you need to complete if you ever want to try living the Internet marketing myth and having just a slim chance of making a living online.
1) Choose your product
Specifically, WHAT do you want to sell? Physical products on eBay or virtual products, like ebooks? This first choice is very important to your future success.
For example, your product has to have a hungry audience just waiting for its arrival before they will dig out their wallets.
You might have heard or read that you have to sell what you are passionate about. Think about that carefully. If you are passionate about British Racing Green thumb screws, you’re probably not going to sell any, unless you can find a large number of active torture chambers in need of this type of supplies.
A good idea is to make a list of your interests and select your favorite one to start with. You can research the size of your potential market with Google or with keyword tools that will tell you the exact terms people are searching for and how many searches there are for a month. That’s an easy way to find out if anyone wants your products. No Interest = No Sales! So, find something that people will have interest in it and spending money to get it.
2) Decide WHO you are going to sell to
You have a lot of choices and you have to select the market that promises the most interest from people who buy products like yours. Even offline you’d have to rent a storefront where your natural market would frequent or they’d never find you.
One way to make these decisions is to go where your market is, like forums and membership sites focused on your topic. Join the forums and become an active member by asking questions and providing answers to other’s questions. Every question asked by somebody probably has hundreds of others looking for your answers. That’s your market. Word of warning, don’t just simply answer, but give a valuable answer. That way, you’ll be perceived as valuable member and you can connect to your audience better
3) Select WHERE you are going to get your products
You can buy virtual products, ebooks, ecourses, software or scripts with rights that allow you to resell them and keep the profits. You can also buy products that come with Private Label Rights, PLR, that you can claim as your own or redo to suit your market.
You can create your own products and keep all the profits for yourself. Many marketer has made a good living doing just that. They either write their own products or hire a ghostwriter or freelancer to do it for them.
Some have claimed fortunes by becoming affiliates for popular marketing “gurus” or trendy offline businesses like the current crop of coffee producers, wine vendors or holiday gift boxes of steaks.
4) Decide HOW you are going to market and sell your products
You can sell them through an online website that you either created yourself or outsource. This process will include the sales letter (website), an opt-in page so you can collect email addresses and permission to market to them, and autoresponder service to send your messages automatically to your opt-ins. This is where you will begin spending a little money. You will need some start-up capital, so you can forget about doing it for free.
In order to make professional money, you need both professional tools and marketing techniques. Some will cost you money, but not serious cash. Starting a business savings account, even if it’s just stuffing some dollar bills in an empty coffeejar, is a very good idea. When you get all your choices and materials lined up, you will need to start putting your dream online.
It is not expensive to start making a living with the Internet and eventually, with some hard work, you may even start living the Internet marketing myth. You might have to skip a few pizzas, but it will be worth it.
