I registered my business today!

<< What do you do for a living?   Managing Times in 3 Easy Steps For Internet Marketer >>

I finally make a move  to register my business today, after 3 months online :)

I went to the business registration booth in Bayan Baru to get mine done and it is a breeze .. everything were completed in less than one hour. It helps that I had doubled checked the business name that I want yesterday and try to fill in the the sample form before I went to see the officer. It speeds up a lot of things. I paid RM70 to get the registration done and got the ‘business certificate’ on the spot.

Since my business is basically sole ownership, it is very easy to do…and I recommend you register your business as well.

For those in Malaysia that would like to register their internet business (sole owner), this steps might be useful to you. You can always refer to SSM website for latest information. You can register online at e-lodgement or go to the SSM office nearby. I suggest you go to the SSM branch office or their mobile office, it is very fast. If you do it online, there will be back and forth processes – if you can stand it then it’ll be fine.. but since I want to get it done quickly…so I go to the mobile office … for those folk in Penang, it is located in Bilik Mesyuarat 1, Level 2, Pasar Bayan Baru, near Sunshine Square. Call the Penang SSM office first to find out what day of the month the mobile office will be open.

1) Go to SSM website and download the sample form. You’ll need the sample PNA.42 and A forms. PNA.42 Form is for the business name that you want to apply and Form A is for the registration itself .. where you put your address and personal detail etc. The link to the sample forms are below:

2) In PNA.42, you will be asked to fill in business name that you’d like to apply. You were given three choices to fill in and the top one will get priority .. I advise that you check if your chosen name is still available before you go there. You may use “SSM carian nama’ . You’ll have to register to use the service and the the details will be sent to your email by the system after you register.  After you’d checked your chosen business name and confirmed that it is available (please check for all three names…) then it’s time to start filling in the sample form.

In PNA.42 you have to summarize the nature of your business, what your business do etc …please do not mix Malays and English when filling any of the forms.. it will get rejected. Ensure that your business description matched your business name, else it will not be accepted and you’ll have to fill in new form. I think there will be exception if you choose to register your own name as your business name..

3) Now, fill in the information needed for Form A. You don’t need to put the business code, just list down the business that you intend to do. I think the Form A is pretty easy to fill.

With these two forms filled, then you are ready to fill in the real form at the SSM office. You’d be suprised that a lot of people stucked at choosing their own business name and also filling in the portion describing their business nature.. please use easy to understand term so that you’d not need to explain yourself to the officer about what your business do. Some of the officers are veteran people so they might ask you lots of questions if they don’t undestand your terms.. Try to list as much as you can, because once the business is registered, you’ll need to pay to get additional description entered for your business.

OK folks, that should be easy enough to do. Though it might not guarantee the one hour.. it will help speed up the whole process in filling in the forms and dealing with the officer. So, go and get your business registered .. a little tip, go early to avoid the crowd :)
